This is the shaddah

It indicates emphasizing or doubling of a letter

It looks like the letter W.

 

Like this example بُّ 

This means it has two baas. The first ba has a sukoon and the next ba has a vowel. In this case it has a dhammah – بْ بُ

Lets look through some examples,

 

أَبَّ

This is the same as this أَبْ بَ
The first ba has a sukoon and the second ba has a fatha. It reads – Abba. Pronouncing both Baas.

Another example.

أُتَّ

This is the same as this أتْ تَ
It reads – utta, not uta, utaa. Pronouncing both taas.

 

إِثَّ

This is the same as this إِثْ ثَ
It reads – iththa, very good

 

أَحَّ

This reads – Ahha

 

أَشَّ

This reads – Ashsha

 

أَوَّ

This reads Awwa. If I take out the shadda it would read Awa أَوَ. Awa.
With a shadda it is Awwa, Awwa not Awa. Awwa.

 

أَصَّ

This reads – ASsa, Great.

Lets try some bigger words.

كَذَّبَ

This reads Kadhdhaba 

 

قُوَّةٍ

This reads Quwwatin

 

جَنَّةٍ

When ever you see a noon ن or a meen م with the shaddah you hold it for two counts in the nose.
This reads Jannatin holding the n’ sound for 2 counts.

ثُمَّ

Same rule here because there is a meem. It reads Thumma holding the m’ sound for two counts. Great

 

قَدَّمَتْ  – Qaddamat

 

سُعِّرتْ

This may be hard for some readers-  Su’’irat.
It’s like this سُعْ عِرَت
Imagine its two words Su’ – I’rat.
In some book the kasra is written below the shaddah and not below the letter.

 

زُوِّجَتْ

Zuwwijat. I didn’t say zuwijat without doubling the letter. It is Zuwwijat.
It’s like this زُوْ وِجَت  – Zuw – Wijat 

 

سُيِّرَتْ

Suyyirat – 
It’s like this سُيْ يِرَت  – Suy-yirat

 

أَيَّانَ

These examples also have long vowels – it reads Ayyaana
It’s like this أَيْ يَان   – Ay yaana

 

إِيَّاك

Iyyaaka – its not iyaaka – its iyyaaka

 

تَجَلَّى

Examples with alif maqsurah – tajallaa

 

تَوَلَّى – Tawallaa 

 

يُصَلُّونَ

Here are some bigger words with long vowels – Yu Salluuna  

 

مُمَدَّدَةٍ

Here is a tricky one – Mu Madda da tin – Mumaddadatin – Great

 

فَمَهِّلْ  – Famahhil 

 

أَلْمُدَّثِّرْ

These examples have sukoons and double shaddahs –
Al mud dath thir – Almuddaththir

 

عِلِّيِّيْنَ

This one is a hard one – I’lliiyiina 
Lets split it so its easy to read – عِلِّي يِينَ
The first word reads I’llii, remember the long vowel ya if it has a kasra on the letter before it we stretch it. I’llii.
Same as the second word – yiina, not yina, yiina because of the long vowel yaa.
So again I’lliiyiina -Great

 

عِلِّيُّونَ

And last one – very similar to the previous one.
